Dear Sir (album)

This is the debut album of Cat Power. Most of it didn’t resonate, except for the song “Rockets,” which was awesome.

The mood of Rockets is sad, but not that sad. There seems to be three interpretations floating around:

1. It’s about babies growing up (see first line “Where do the dreams of babies go”)
2. It’s about the desire to have children (again see first line).
3. It’s about the inevitability of not reaching our ambitions.

I’m partial to the 3rd interpretation, because it fits the lightly melancholic feel to the song. Not realizing the crazy dreams we had as kids is not really devastating. Of course you were never going to be a space detective or whatever. But its still sad.
