Key West, Florida

Visited in January 2022

  • I stayed for one week at the Coconut Mallory Resort.
  • The weather was wonderful and the sunsets were beautiful.
  • The island smelled bad due to the rotting sargassum and the large number of boats.
  • While I enjoyed biking along the beach, it’s annoying to be constantly riding alongside busy roads.
  • My favorite things were:
    • Swimming at Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park;
    • Biking around the island;
    • Eating mussels at Saulte! On the Beach;
    • Visiting the Fort East Martello Museum; and
    • Watching the Pole Vault in Paradise competition.
  • Things I did not enjoy as much:
    • Visiting Mallory Square;
    • Visiting Duval street; and
    • Visiting the Key West Lighthouse.
  • I had not been to Key West since I was a kid. I had forgotten how touristy it was.
  • There were a couple really beautifully decorated houses, the area did not feel that artsy.
  • I felt like Key West was optimized for boaters. I’m not really a boat person, so I probably won’t come back for a long time.
