Razor Girl

- I was reading this while visiting Key West to try to get in-touch with the place.
- My dad is a big Hiassen fan, so I read a lot of Hiassen when I was in high school. I’ve previously read:
- Double Whammy
- Native Tongue
- Strip Tease
- Stormy Weather
- Lucky You
- Sick Puppy
- Skinny Dip
- I usually have a great memory for books, but these ones really run together.
- I have a good recollection of Stormy Weather (which I read first) and Skinny Dip (which I think I accidentally read twice).
- The others completely run together.
- This one is very standard Hiaasen fare, and I doubt I will remember almost anything in it.
- I felt like it had more liberal pandering than I remember from Hiassen.
- I’m not sure if that’s a change in Hiassen, the times, or my sensitivity to liberal pandering
- There were a lot of hip technology references, but they felt kind of forced-in. “Since the Tesla had no trunk, he was able to ride in the backset.” I wondered if it was a deliberate attempt to make the book seem less dated.
- Similarly, most of the Key West references seemed trivial (e.g. “he walked up Whitehead street towards Mallory Square.”)
- My favorite part was the discussions of the beach replenishment.
- This book had an excellent Wikipedia article. Thanks to the user Crouchbk!
